This company phoned me offering me an expensive membership. I was busy and distracted and the sales rep was relentless. I finally just said okay, planning to research them later that night and cancel if I felt iffy about it.

Sure enough, they are on just about every fraud website out there, including this one. The BBB shows 241 closed complaints against them, yet gives them an A?

Anyway, when I went to their site to e mail my wish to cancel, I saw, for the first time a statement saying that all memberships were non-refundable from the moment of the sale!

So, had I told the woman I changed my mind one nanosecond after giving her my credit card information, she would have refused to refund me? I would pay nearly a thousand dollars just for her sales pitch?

I'm sure that is precisely what they're going to try and pull, so for now it's their false advertising and dishonest sales methods I'm complaining against. I have notified my bank and will be disputing the charge. I hear they try to renew your membership yearly with or without your consent, so while I could change my card number, I think I'll just tell the bank it's fraud if they try it.

According to several people who posted bad reviews about this company, they made complaints to the Attorney General of New York for precisely that-unauthorized credit card charges in the amount of 99 dollars.

One lady said they double charged her for a total of 2,000 for her initial membership fee, then flatly refused to refund her a dime.

Definitely wish I'd read the reviews first!

  • National Association of Professional Women absolutely does and will refund your money. You will have to insist (likely a few times, magic words: attorney general). It is true that they do not want to refund your money, but their reputation is important to them. They would prefer to lose a member or two than their reputation. With that said they have hundreds of thousands of satisfied members (over 500,000 now), and frankly, you cannot satisfy 100% of the people 100% of the time). If you have joined, then USE it. Joining a gym doesn't make you fit. Going to the gym and exercising makes you fit.
