I met a man through Christian Mingle, after emails he went on a business trip overseas. While there lost wallet was in need of funds to finish business and return to states. I did not have any money to help him; however I had a PayPal acct and was in the process of setting up a website for my mother's rehab center. I had just applied the donate button to the website but had not tested it and had it attached to my personal account until I knew how the process worked. I had shared that info and said if he had others who could send money and because I wanted to check it out anyway then because the sum was large he could send his friends to the website and when the sums accumulated I would then western union the money.
He did just that, however after a few weeks time all of a sudden all transactions were being reversed through PayPal saying unauthorized use of credit cards. I am now about 17,000 in debt because all funds that came into PayPal I sent him and when PayPal reversed the charges it left me owing. Unknowing because I did not sell an item I was not covered under the PayPal protection plan.
I don't know what to do of course I have no money to pay them back and because I had not completed the corp. nonprofit status and still had button attached to my account it "appears" I was trying to commit fraud. Which is not at all the case? I have all communication email etc proving this.
My question is this a common happening? Who would I contact for help? I am so humiliated and embarrassed that I have been scammed I have not shared with anyone but PayPal. But PayPal is only concerned about being paid back, which I understand, I am concerned for myself and want to make sure this can't happen to another person. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I have a 3" three binder with documation emails chats, pictures, copy of Western Union transactions his passport, etc. But honestly until I know scambook is for real I am gunshy to expose all my personal corospondence. I will however upload his information I currently have.
