I received a W-2 from Brown Qualified Settlement Fund today, but do not remember getting a check from them

I did work for Walmart for about 8 years but did not fill out the paper work for the class action lawsuit as it said you did not have to fill it out.

Did I get this W-2 in mistake? If not then I would like to also get the check that goes along with it.

  • I got the same W-2 and I also, worked for Wal-Mart many years ago.

To validate the issue, I'd recommend the two things that I'm going to do myself come Monday:

First, since I don't exactly remember receiving a check, I'm going to call my bank and have they search my deposit records just to make sure I didn't throw the check at them and forget about it over the course of last year.
It was, after all, only for $14.74. I could have easily forgotten that.

Second, I'm going to call my tax preparation provider. In this case H&R Block and ask them if they have any information on this issue. As, I'm sure we're not the only ones confused about what this is.

Additionally, the settlement document can be found here:

And some information on QSFs (Qualified Settlement Funds) and their methods and requirements for reporting taxation by W-2s or 1099s can be found here:
