Received a 37 inch RCA television as a christmas present that had been purchased at Wal-Mart. Living on the beach for years has taught me to connect all electronics through a surge protector, we had a thunderstorm, I walked in the room and smelled something smoldering and unplugged the surge protector. Plugged back in everything was working except the TV. Called the RCA Warranty Co
they checked production date of the back of TV and informed me there was no need to check what was wrong, all TV's produced this date are defect since an important component was left out. It probably fried the circuit board,this and the missing part has to be installed. They will forward the parts to me and the repairman will come to house in 10 days. Unbelievable they knew the TV was a possible fire hazard and they don't notify the people that bought them. Ten days later I was told the parts are on backorder and I am rescheduled for September 8, 2011. On 9/7 no parts, repair service called, they can't keep rescheduling, RCA warranty tells me they are only a contractor handling the one year warranties for RCA TV's produced by OnCorp in China for Wal-mart and suggested I contact Wal-mart since thy can't fix it without the parts. I talked to 3 so-called managers or asst.mgrs and was told since Wal-mart didn't know the were defective at the time of sale it is not their job to recall defective items for me to call the 800 number. I called 800-walmart held on for 10 minutes and was given a phone number to call the manufacturer, called that number it it had ben disconnected.
Walmart back and was told this the only number they have.
Sam Walton gave this company a good reputation by standing behind everything they sold but this is the new Walmart, they contract cheap fly by night manufacturers in China for their Walmart Specials without putting their name on it. Oncorp probably closed their doors as soon as the first claims came in and Walmart feels that it is the customers not theirs. Meanwhile, I have a new TV that worked for exactly six months, that may or may not be repaired on September 22nd. So I have been looking to buy a new TV and found the Walmart special price was not that special since you can buy a Sony, LG or Sharp for $50.- cheaper.
