I received a call from an overly-enthusiastic woman telling me that I had just won a $10.00 WalMart gift card and $100.00 in free gas as some prize for completing an online survey. Ironically, I REALLY HAD just completed an online survey at school (one of the prizes mentioned for it REALLY WAS free gas money).

I gave them my information and got two questionable-looking vouchers (too sketchy to be real, now that I've researched up a bit). They charged me some $2.98 fee for "processing", but later saw fit to snatch $59.99 out of my account for no reason. More recently, as I discovered, Waka has pulled another $19.98 out of my bank account. The moment I became privy to this just put a cherry on an already perfect afternoon (not).

I called the Waka support/customer service number (one of two listed on their site). I demanded a refund of the stolen money and that my account be canceled immediately. Even after the woman on the line (from India, and speaking in broken English) claimed to have canceled my account (and gave me an account cancellation number), I can still log in to the site and access it. Obviously, the account never was "canceled". Further, she claimed that I would receive my refund (though, it's not really a "refund" if the funds were stolen in the first place) in 3 to 5 days. Somehow, I doubt this is going to actually happen.

Currently, I'm planning on waiting a few days and then cutting my card and getting a new account number (best plan). I'm at least thankful that I wasn't scammed for more than I was. A few cases I researched (after my initial "surprise") included thefts of up to $2000.00 with recurring charges of $19.98 every month. I thank God that I found out about this as soon as I did.

BE WARNED! WAKA IS A SCAM!
