In October, 2011 I received an unsolicited phone call from an entity called Egumball offering me SEO services. The person suggested that his firm was affiliated with Google and had the ability to promote my business (a B&B) online. The fee was $129 a month, charged to my credit card. After that I received 5 emails from Egumball stating what services they had purportedly provided to me. I did not receive a contract. I did not receive an invoice. I did not receive a receipt for the first charge on my card, which was for $288, not $129. I did not receive further reports of services provided. In fact, I ceased to hear from eGumball at all. In January I cancelled my credit card and was issued a new one. I assumed that eGumball had dropped off. However, eGumball resumed debiting my account in March. I run my business by myself & don’t check my bank statements carefully for months. In November, 2012 I noticed eGumball was still billing me. I called them and asked what contract I had signed allowing this and was told that an “application” had been sent to me via email and I had signed it. He emailed it to me. I had never seen it before. My “signature” was TYPED in. I called my bank and asked, How did they get around the new card number? I learned that if they had an authorization number from the earlier card they could have used that for the new card. The only consistent service provided by eGumball (not affiliated with Google) was to charge me $129 every month, a total of $1,935.
