I received a call from Jay Carter at First Liberty Consultants in September saying that I was approved for a loan modification through my lender. The approval ID was 2194085. I agreed to let them start taking the new payment amount of $747.53 out on October 1st and signed the documents through Docusign. There was a 3rd party, Meracord, who would be withdrawing the money. On the very day that the money was due to come out I got a letter in the mail from my mortgage company stating that they were going to start bankruptcy proceedings by October 26th if I did not pay a certain amount. I called them and told them that I thought I had a loan modification through First Liberty Consultants and they informed me that they had no such information. They agreed to let me pay less and stop the foreclosure due to this. I immediately called Meracord and was informed there was nothing they could due, but I could stop the next 3 payments from coming out by cancelling the contract. I cancelled the contract and no further monies have been withdrawn. However, to this date, I have not been successful in reaching First Liberty Conultants by e-mail or phone. They are definitely a scam company. My husband and I are both disabled and retired so this really hurt us financially. I had to take out a loan to pay the amount agreed upon with my finance company to keep them for foreclosing. And, I am still two months behind and paying a little more each month to try and catch up.
