On the 24October 2011 I bought a garlic crusher (press) from the above for $2.00.
I did not use this until preparing dinner on the 19Nov.12 when after a little pressure was applied the handle broke right off.
The next day 20Nov.12 I took the 'crusher' with the receipt back and asked for a refund the Assistant Yan Chen looked at the receipt and said "no -it is too late" and pointed to a hand written note on the front of the cash register which read,"Dear Customer, We are happy to exchange your goods within 14 days, providing the goods are in their oringinal condition."
She then snatched the Press and the "oringinal' wrapper up off the counter and thrust it at me saying 'no refund over two weeks." I tried to explain about the Consumer Guarantees Act. but she would not listen and just keep saying "no refund after two weeks".
I then left and called at the Orewa C.A.B. where Brian told me I was in the right and he offered to say so if the Store phoned him. I then returned to the Store and gave Yan Chen a copy of the Consumer Guarantee Act. leftlet and asked her to give the C.A.B. a phone call on the 0800 no. She went to the phone and made out she was calling the C.A.B. She then returned to the counter and said she was right and pointed again to the notice in front of the cash register. I immediately returned to the C.A.B. and sked Brian if they had received a call and he said 'no'.
I then left my name and phone no with Brian. I understand he then phoned you and established that I was in the right and the "shop notice' actually contravened the Act.
On Friday 23Nov.12 I returned to the shop to get their phone no and post code. There was a man in the shop who I asked if he was the Manager. He said he was the Owner. I then informed him that I was making a complaint to Consumer Affairs and asked for his name, phone no. and post code. He said his Assistant (Yan Chen) had told him about my complaint and he would not give me his name, phone no. or post code. I repeated my request to confirm his refusal and he again refused to give me this information. He then followed me out of the Shop and told me "you can make your complaint but you are not allowed back into this Shop again".
This has all been most stressful nd upseting and I do hope you can help me and others who may follow me.
