We advertised a rental property on Gumtree,received an SMS to email Joan as she was interested in renting the unit for 6 months.
I emailed, she said she will put into PayPal Account the money, we received an OK from Paypal. Next day we got an email for us to pay shipment of her belongings from Italy $726 + $60 Western Union fee,she has put the additional fee in the paypal account which paypal once again confirmed.We then proceeded to forward the $785 to an address in Milano subpossible the shipping company.

Same day got another email asking for more money!!! Then the penny dropped.
I understand that you can't get our money back but we want to put out a warning to others and maybe you can chase the contacts we have given

I got the same on the 3rd October...
Hello,
Thanks for your email and I will be paying you through PayPal, i would
have requested for your bank account information but for safety of
both party with giving bank account information online i prefer using
PayPal.But if you do not have a PayPal account, all you have to do is
to log on to www.paypal.com and set up an account and get back to me
with PayPal money request for me to make the payment. I will also like
you to get back to me with your full home address for me to forward it
to my mover agent to calculate the total cost of moving my little
stuffs down there.I will be waiting to read back from you.

The SMS I got was she was at sea and can't make or receive phone calls...
I googled PayPal scams as soon as I got this email and there is was, the old " I'm at sea scam " identical SMS routine was a common scam.. So I've just didnt reply back... -

for anyone who has been scammed by oil889 or lee, or joan or any of these devils, I was able to obtain oil889 (real name dare nicholas) cell phone number. I have been using skype to call him at night (nigeria local time, yeah, i know, nigeria, what a shock!).
