Complaint 163897 Details

I was selling bicycle equipment on eBay. "Phillip Nast" offered to buy it but said he couldn't meet in person. He offered to have a cashier's check sent and requested my address and other personal information. I assume this is the common Craigslist fraid in which the scammer writes the check for more money than is needed and then asks for you to wire the overage amount to his mover. The cashier's check then bounces when you deposit it. The text of his email is below. It is nearly identical to the email in another complaint posted on Scambook.

Here is the text of the email I received from [email protected]:

Thanks for your swift response, I'm seriously interested in buying
this for my Step-son. Your asking price is quite reasonable and
affordable considering others I've seen lately, I'll take it. I would
have loved to come check it out my self but am currently in camp as
Army SERE instructor for new recruits. I however squeezed out time to
check this posting as all personal dealings are highly restricted
here, i really want this as a surprise gift for my step-son so i won't
let him know anything about this until it get delivered to him and due
to the fact that phone calls making are restricted......i will be
paying you via cashier's check because it's attached to my bank
account and its safe and very secure way to make payment. If my mode
of payment is accepted just send me the following details for the
payment:

FYI: You will not be responsible for the shipping. I would have a
my mover handle that for me. The payment will be delivered to you
by USPS (next-day) and I will be adding an extra $50 to the asking
price so you could have the ad deleted off Craigslist and consider it
sold please.
