On the 21st September 2012 I was placed in contact by an employment agent with an employer 600km from where I live. Upon speaking with the employer I agreed to present for work for one weeks paid trial on the basis that I would also be subsidised for one weeks accommodation.

After presentation to the employer, I was informed later in the day that my services were no longer required. The employer made no mention of either payment for the accommodation or wages. However when I confronted him on the matter he paid me $200 cash for the days wages and a cheque for two nights accommodation. The employer also advised that in regards to the days wages, he"would have to reconsider in the even that the employment agent was to become aware of the arrangement. No reason was given for the termination of my services other than my skills where inadequate. However I consider this excuse to be rather flimsy given my qualifications and experience in the I.T industry

Given that it was probable that I was likely to left substantially out of pocket from this experience, I agreed and waited for the cheque to clear the banking process before making this complaint.

I also contacted the employment agent and he advised that they had had trouble with this employer before and would probably invoice the employer for the outstanding wages and get back to me, but he needed to speak with someone more senior first. This they have not done.

My query is this. Is there anything that can be done about what has occurred? Is there anything that can be done to prevent this from happening to someone else (given the employment agent indicated this has happened before).
