I had an ad on Gumtree for my motorbike. He recieved my paypal details and showed me that money had been transfered into it. He then asked me to send $550 to his agent to cover transport costs. He reckoned it was going to his father in NZ. Then paypal would release the funds. He also has the ability to use paypal to send you emails telling you its all okay, and that you would have to pay this money and then they would release the funds.

- We just placed an ad on Gumtree today to sell our pit bike, got a text from "Philip Vinci" asking if it was still available and to reply to his e-mail at [email protected] which we did. Then to a very "scammy sounding" e-mail from him saying he was "working overseas" could only be contacted by e-mail, wanted to by the bike sight-unseen for his dad and could only pay by Paypal. Said he had a "courier friend" who would pick up so no costs etc. I replied asking for something to confirm he lived in Australia, said that his phone number was "not in service" and asking if there was someone we could contact to verify his details. I also asked if there was someone who could look at the bike for him. No reply as yet - will keep informed.
