I’m seeking your assistance in resolving a complaint I have against Omnology Inc. (Michael Williams, Sr. VP & John Oliver, CEO) due to their unwillingness to negotiate a refund or a suitable settlement for career placement services ($3,975) which I paid for, that were not performed, per the contract. I’ve held numerous meetings with both gentlemen during the past eleven months, with hopes of resolving this issue in an equitable manner. Omnology has not been willing to negotiate despite not completing over 65% of the major milestones & deliverables outlined in the agreement. The agreement was signed on 2/13/2011. A brief background of my experience is as follows:
After posting my resume online I received a call from Ms. Knight of Omnology. She stated my resume had been reviewed by the Sr. VP, Michael Williams who was very impressed with my background and wanted to interview me. During the interview he stated that his firm was a member of the BBB and they had years of experience and a 98% success rate in placing professionals in new careers. He said the job market was beginning to turnaround and he recently placed several clients in careers paying $100K+ a yr. He assured me that with Omnology’s network of local hiring managers, my background and their proven approach, he was confident he would have me placed into a new career within a few months.
After reviewing their website, I saw similar claims regarding their 98% success rate in placing their clients in new careers. During my next meeting, Michael said he already started work on a possible plan for me. He said he felt it was his spiritual calling from God to help those in need find new jobs. He also guaranteed that they would work with me until they placed me in a new career. After searching on own for over 1½ years with no success, I decided to contract with Omnology to assist with my career pursuits. I withdrew $3,975 from my 401K plan and paid Omnology for their employment services on 2/13/2011.
For the next 5 months I met with John Oliver to discuss search strategies and personal branding. During our first meeting, John agreed to allow me to record our meetings for later review. Thus all meetings & conversations were recorded. After a few months I became concerned with John’s apparent lack of urgency in providing me with solid job leads. To add to my concern, none of the deliverables promised were produced, including: a professional marketing brochure, LinkedIn makeover and mock interviews. I expressed my concerns with John Oliver in a May 2011 meeting. He stated we needed to increase the frequency of our meetings and he would schedule a series of practice interviews with his team of professional interviewers. A few weeks after that meeting I had a mock interview with Michael Williams & none of the other items were complete and remain outstanding.
As my financial situation became dire & my savings started to be depleted, I accelerated my personal job search pursuits without any leads provided by Omnology. I was blessed to find a job with my former employer in July 2011. I also took a part-time job with a janitorial service to stave off foreclosure on my home. In August, 2011, I met with John and told him about my new job status. I again expressed my displeasure with the lack of urgency on Omnology's part in honoring their verbal promises and the terms of the contract. During a 6 month period, John never proactively called or emailed me. I originated all contact with Omnology. He agreed to accelerate efforts to get me placed in a better career. I told him I could not meet regularly due to working two jobs. He suggested that I meet with him as I can and he would work on my LinkedIn profile and marketing brochure. Months past and I never heard back from John. I met with John in October 2011 and I suggested that we sever ties. I told him that I was not expecting a full refund rather that we come up with an amount to compensate Omnology for their time and refund me the balance. John who has the title CEO of Omnology referred me to Michael Williams. When we finally talked, he stated that if I could meet with John more regularly I would get results. I told him that was not possible due to my schedule. He stated, “I don’t know what else to tell you. “
On January 6, 2012 during a phone call with Michael Williams he told me and I quote, "You are not getting your money back!" He claimed that due to my work schedule and my inability to come to their office, they could not complete the terms stated in the contract. He wished me luck on my new job.
In a last ditch effort to resolve this issue, I called a meeting with both Michael Williams and John Oliver which took place 5/23/2012. I asked if they had reconsidered their position. They both reiterated that they had no intent on refunding any portion of the fees I paid, but they would be glad to continue consultation meetings when I had time. I asked, “Why should I believe resuming meetings would yield any different results than it had in 1 ½ years?” “During that time many promises were made but promises never materialized into job prospects, structured consultative training or any tangible results. John Oliver responded by saying, "We will help you find the next job."
