At the beginning of the year, (I believe around that time, not sure of date) my husband and I rented a laptop from the company. My husband signed the rental form and agreed to pay the 25 bucks + tax a week. We were paying regularly until we moved to the Bronx in March, my husband lost his job and I got a transfer with my job. We only had my income (which is part time) and beside the fact I am supporting 4 of us on that part time. We kept making payments and sometimes made payments of 2 weeks when we could. Towards the end of August (not sure of the date) when I made a payment, I had asked what the payoff amount was and was told it was $58.18 (I believe that was the amount). Had it written down but don't have it with me and I do not know who I spoke to that day but it wasn't one of the regulars that work there. When I made the next two week payments (which should have at least paid it off) I was told that it wasn't the last payment and that I had another 25 bucks to go the following week (which would have led us into the first week of Sept.) Usually pay them on Sat. because I get paid on Fri. so when I called on 9/1 and was told that I still owed $58.00 on this laptop. first of all, the laptop isn't worth the almost thousand bucks we paid out toward it since it was used in the first place, but we needed a computer. Now I know that I'm no math expert but if I made 2 or 3 payments towards this, then how come the payoff amount never goes down? I did ask the salesman and he said if you want to pay it off, you have to come into the store. I told him that I don't live in Danbury, CT anymore and I don't have access to a car to get there. I then asked if I would have to keep paying weekly payments on it till I can get into the store and the salesperson hung up on me. They (salespeople) at rent-a-center call and harass the heck out of us at least 5 or 6 times a day when the payment is due. One message is enough. THey call my cell phone, my husbands cell phone. THey even call and harass the people we put down originally as references. This is poor business and I will never deal with them again. I would never even refer anyone to deal with them again.

  • Hi- I work at RAC and I’m very sorry to hear about the problems you’ve been having with one of our stores. It’s absolutely against Rent-A-Center's policies to harass customers by calling repeatedly when the customer is unavailable to speak. Please give our Customer Care team a call at 1-800-422-8186 and they will assist you with your payout schedule and remaining balance. They’re there to help with issues like this. Thanks.

  • Thank you very much. Will call them. 2 of the salespeople in this store are really rude and unprofessional and hung up on both my husband and myself. I will definitely give this no. a call
