Two months ago I received a call from Online Public Yellowpages. I am a church secretary. They stated that our pastor had authorized a free listing for 2010 and a fee of $599.99 for 2011 and 2012. I put them on hold and asked our pastor if he did this. He said absolutely not (our church is very small and in no way can afford $599.99 for an internet listing). I got back on the phone and stated that we never authorized these charges and was told that I just had to record my answers to several questions. These questions included things such as "Are you authorized to cancel this account?" and "Is your name xxx". All "yes" answers. Two months later I receive an invoice stating we are 108 days past due and the charges are up to $627.39 due to late fees. (I never received any other invoices before this). I immediately called the phone number (866) 319-6022 and the only thing the operator would tell me (robot-like) was that she was going to play the authorization tape. I heard my voice saying yes to questions that were never asked of me, including "Do you authorize invoice in the amount of $599.99?" I asked repeatedly to speak to a supervisor and was told that "That is not how it works. Your account has already gone to collections for nonpayment". I will obviously not be paying this bill and will be registering a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. How can these people on the phone live with themselves knowing that they are scamming people? Someone please stop them!
