I hired Jeff Sigmon - Father & Son Remodeling the first of June to repair the storm damage to my home. He was supposed to do a new roof, new siding and new windows. I have never hired a contractor to do a job like this so when he wanted $5000 up front I thought it was normal.

He said he could start in 4 to 5 weeks and would be done in 3 to 4 days.

I also asked him to provide a detailed estimate so I could turn it in to my insurance company because they needed it to release the rest of my claim money and other money that was over the claim amount they gave me.

Jeff never would give me the estimate even after several phone calls explaining why I needed it.

After several phone calls to him his crew showed up one day and tore the old siding off my house and removed my storm windows. This left my house destroyed with open holes in it. The temperature here was well into the 90s and all of my air condition was leaking out the holes and cracks he left exposed. It also rained a couple of times and blew in.

He said for me not to worry about my insurance company he would talk to them, for me to get them on the phone while he was here. He spoke to my disaster claim agent but didn't get far so he left my house open to the weather for 2 weeks while I had to deal with the insurance company, I had to take more pictures and send in more information for them to release the money to repair my home. All of this could have been avoided if Mr. Sigmon had gotten me the detailed estimate I asked for many weeks earlier.

He told me at this time he had purchased the material for my roof and siding with the $5000 I gave him for the deposit. He claimed he had actually spent over the $5000 for my material.

I finally worked everything out with my insurance company and they mailed out more money for repairs, they told me to go ahead and get Mr. Sigmon back on the job to finish.

I called him that same day and he said he would go the next day and purchase my windows. He called the day he was supposed to get my windows and said he would get them the next day and they would finish up.

The day he was supposed to come with my windows I called him and he said his crew was on the way and he was on the way to get my windows, he said they should be able to get several in (I needed 7) that day.

An hour later 1 man showed up and began to wrap my house in Tyvek, he told me Mr. Sigmon was out buying my windows and would be here soon. Another man showed up about about an hour after that claiming he had over slept and started helping the first man.

Mr. Sigmon showed up about 1:00 p.m. with no windows, he pulled the first man aside and talked to him then he came over to me and said he needed to get another check for $2600 to buy 7 double pane windows. I reminded him that I told him the first of the week that the money was in the mail from my insurance company and he said he was buying my windows.

He told me he was not buying my windows out of his pocket because he had $70,000 out in material already from other jobs and he didn't trust the insurance company to send me the money.

I called my disaster claims adjuster and let him speak to Mr. Sigmon to clarify the money was on the way but even after that Mr. Sigmon said he would not buy the windows till I got the money and wrote him another check even though I had already paid him $5000.

His 2 men had partially wrapped my house in Tyvek at this time and he collected them and left still leaving a good portion of my house exposed to the weather.

Later that afternoon (this was on Thursday) after I got over being stunned about what had happened I called Mr. Sigmon and asked him to go ahead and start on my roof while we were waiting on the rest of my money and since he told me he had already purchased that material but he gave me some crazy story saying he couldn't do my roof till he did the siding and he couldn't do siding till I bought my windows.

The next morning I was talking with another local business owner which had just so happened to have hired Mr. Sigmon to do work for him and he didn't have good things to say.

At this point I was getting nervous so I called Mr. Sigmon and very nicely asked him to bring the materials which he said he had purchased and drop them off at my home (the job site) after all I had paid for them. Mr. Sigmon became furious on the phone and said he was not bringing me anything and that I had been the worst customer he had ever dealt with. I told him in that case he could just figure up the cost of the time and the little bit of material (1 roll of Tyvek - I priced this at Lowes retail for $107 and a few 2X6 boards) and he could give me the difference of my money back. He said that would be fine but he would need till Monday to figure up everything and he had to get with the project manager to get the hours.

I was very suspicious at this point so I made a phone call to Lyon Roofing LLC where he told me he was buying my metal roof to see if he had actually bought the material, after looking through his purchases they confirmed he had not purchased it. They also informed me that several people had complained about him and that he had a really bad temper. They advised me to contact my local sheriff's department and file a complaint.

I contacted my sheriff's department and gave them all the information and they called to talk with him, after speaking with Mr. Sigmon he was unable to give them a contractor's license number for the state of Tennessee or Virginia where I live.

On Monday afternoon I called him after he didn't show up or call me and he said he was too busy but he promised he would bring my money on Tuesday. He also asked me why I called the sheriff on him and I told him I was very concerned about the way he acted and talked to me on the phone.

He didn't show up or call on Tuesday so I decided to let it go for a period of time so see if he would do the right thing and make good. Meanwhile I reported him to the BBB.

I called him on August 25th after giving him ample time to make good or at least contact me and he became irate on the phone again, calling me a coward for calling the sheriff's office on him and reporting him to the BBB. He said he was not going to talk to me and that I would be talking to his lawyer and then hung up on me.
