had item on craigs list for sale. buyer sent bad check. buyer didn't get item. called the bank where the check came from. they informed me it was a bad check. not out any money but wanted to report it

Thank you for posting this, "Tiffany" wanted to buy my scooter by mailing a check, so I googled the info on the email signature and your post popped up. She's now signing emails with:

It was on craigslist and she claimed to have a hearing disability, thus unable to talk on the phone. Claimed to be taking care of a sick friend out of state, and buying the scooter for a "dear close friend". All intended to make you think this is a wonderful person you can trust. Just writing all this so people googling about this scam will be more likely to find this.

I almost fell victim to this same scam. I filed a complaint too. My bank teller informed me that it was a scam. I was to send the over amount this morning. Thanks for posting & saving people from falling for this. Tiffany only contacts me through email, I was to western union the money to Anthony Thammavongsa in Alaska with a BB&T bank check sent to me from North Carolina & I am in Ohio. None of it adds up. I hope others that get here by researching this scam or that fall victim to it file a complaint so maybe another person is saved from it. Thanks again.

I just went through the same thing! I am trying to sell a murphy bed for $800 on craigslist. Lisa Lewis responded to my post asking to come see it. She later told me she couldn't that her seminar was canceled and would like to purchase the bed regardless. Lisa said she would include money for shipping, and stated it was for a distant cousin with whom she was trying to help out. She also claimed to have a speech disability. When I received the check it was listed for $2800 which she stated the additional would be for the shipping company, so I deposited it. She then requested wire transfer to a Joemmy Cardenas. I was leery but try to think the best of people, so I did. She then messaged back and said it was spelled wrong it was actually Jaemmy. At this point I became uncomfortable and canceled transaction. Because the check deposited I thought it was real and so I wanted to get it back to the individual, which would require another wire. This was to Kyle Thammavongsa of Anchorage Alaska. I called the police department as it was then I realized it was a scam. This all happened between yesterday and today. They are still emailing, writing wanting money. Riding it all out till next week until the banks open again. Luckily I am not out on any money at all, just waiting for the bank to call and collect their money as I'm sure they will be doing so soon as it is not a legitimate check. It's a shame that I am too trusting, as I could have really been out a lot of money. I never thought I could be scammed but "she" really had me believing the stories she told.
