A couple of months ago I allowed a piece of freeware to scan my my computer. They wanted to sell me something to fix the errors they had found for a fee, and I refused. Then they scanned it again yesterday without my knowledge and came up with 1850 registry errors, one or two of them serious. They said that "ending Aug 10" (that day) I could buy the program for 9.95 instead of the usual 29.95. There was so much info on the page stating that they were Microsoft partners that I thought with $20.00 off the listed price of $29.95, it was worth a try. I subscribed, and then saw their notice that my bank account would be billed $39.95, which would automatically renew every year! I called the number but got a tech support in India, who knew nothing but said I should call their customer support office in Florida. They had a recording saying they were open from 9-5 Pacific time. Huh? I waited till noon Eastern time, called over and over, and got repeated recorded messages saying that I had to wait for my place in the queue.
I still have not reached them, and it seems according to their website they are based out of Vancouver, not Florida. Usually customer service is fast, because they want the sale. How do I get rid of this charge?? I know it's not major money, but it's the falsehood, and the access to my bank that scares me. Do I have to escalate this to the FCC??
