We recently bought our bungalow (with conservatory) in Abergele.
Several developing problems prompted us to contact D B Direct (all details left by previous owner).
Eventually, "Richard" called and, to be fair, he did a fairly thorough examination. He freelly stated that the five window units were all faulty and also, that the floor was not of the correct mix (breaking up around edges and letting water in).
He repeated that the guarantee only applied to the initial owner at the time of fitting the conservatory. Also it was D B I who did the work and they have ceased to trade.
But he conceded that they could look at individual cases on their merits. He acknowledged that we were not the cause of the problems and that we were responsible people, not given to damaging their own property - even with a guarantee!
Promises that the "boss" would phone me back with a decision to make good the fualts (or not)repeatedly failed to occur.
Eventually, the contact voice at the end of the telephone line, making promises to pass my concerns on (to the "boss"), turned out to be that "Mystery man" - the "boss!"
He finally told me that they could not do the repairs.
I had already offered the sweetener (When Richard first visited), that they could have the business of putting in a large bay window plus another window, if they did do the repairs. Still they refused to do the decent thing.
Co-incidentally, I then had to phone my solicitor regarding the Deeds. I related the story to him and asked about the legality of their guarnatee loop-hole.
He replied that guarantees for conservatories and windows are only as much good as the company supplying them!
In summary;
1 - The same people who were D B I (which ceased to trade)are now D B Direct - although all paperwork passed on from the previous owner gives the business name as D B Direct.
So all mention of D B I was a red herring.
2 - Richard freely admitted that the window units and floor were all faulty and sub standard.
3 - The person who always answered the telephone repeatedly lied to me that he would get the boss to contact - when he was that mystery boss - he lied to me; repeatedly.
4 - My own Solicitor implied that D B Direct were not a quality organisation.
5 - This is certainly born out by their use of sub-standard materials and dubious sub-contractors!
My opinion of D B Direct, Conservatories, Windows and Doors of Rhyl, from my personal dealings with them, is that they are not to be trusted. Take your business elsewhere!
