On receipt of my Bank Statement for Jun/Jul 2011 I noticed a direct debit charge for £19.95 on 01 Jul 2011, as I could not recall what it was for, I put it down to forgetfulness. My next Statement for Jul/Aug records the same charge on 01 Aug 2011 - which I thought odd.
On reflection, I recalled an e-mail I received from MyHeritage Newsletter with reference to a web-site I was researching. On opening the e-mail I was warned that another web-site was trying to access my computer and was advised that I should carry out a credit check as it is rogue site and it is possible that there could be an attempt to defraud me. Not being too computer savvy I followed the instructions given, and although normally extra careful about Bank details, I foolishly submitted them believing they were required for the credit check.
Needless to say I have now instructed my bank about this matter and cancelled the Direct Debit.
