ON August 17/2011 I have ordered two books from http://www.vendio.com, as follows: Prebles' Artforms 10th Edition AUTHORS: Patrick L Frank, Patrick Frank, Sarah Preble, Duane Preble ISBN 0205797539, and Writing Analytically, 6th Edition,David Rosenwasser - Muhlenberg College,Jill Stephen - Muhlenberg College ISBN-10: 0495910082. I have paid over $23 shipping because I wanted to have it expedited. The books showed to be at an affordable price, and the information given was appealing. There were two pictures of the book, but the seller assured the buyer that only the book cover differs, and that the ISBN 10 is the correct one (the ISBN number was shown below the picture, so I proceeded with purchasing the books). Saturday August 20, 2011 was the day when I received the first manual, "Writing analytically" - the wrong edition, number 5. I got in touch with the customer service and I was asked to send the book back, via "standard media mail," and was told that I will be reimbursed with shipping fees too only if they agree that they sent me the wrong edition. I had no choice, and I trusted that I will receive my money back. Two days later, on Monday August 22, 2011 was the day when I received the second book, and, to my surprise, the same mistake happened once again! Even though I ordered the tenth edition of "Prebles' Artforms," I received the ninth edition. I have sent an inquiry right away; however, there is no answer yet, and I don't believe there will ever be an answer. This company falsely advertises books at affordable prices, but they deliberately sell older editions, because they want to deceive people. These old editions can be found on any other websites (half.com, dealoz.com,) for few dollars only, but they sell it as newer editions, so they can earn money by stealing and deceiving.
I have received an email from penntext.com earlier, the place from where the Writing Analytically fifth edition book was shipped. Even though the message I forwarded to them explained that the google order number differed, and that the book I received was not the one I ordered, they tried to convince me that I have paid $1.15 instead of $17.40, and that I ordered the book with the picture and ISBN they inserted in the message, but not the one I paid for.
I have lost time and money waiting for these books to arrive. Now, I have $61.14 less in my bank account. I have received books I have not ordered. They asked me to send the books back, so they can give me around $5 for both. They should be stopped selling books. It is a deceiving practice, and customers fall for cheap books. I want my money back.

We accept full responsibility for the error and I can offer a full refund in addition to a reimbursement for returning the items via USPS media mail. Please let us know once you have returned the items. If you do not receive a refund automatically, simply contact me here and I will gladly assist you.

  • Hello, As a reputable business with a name similar to the one being used on this scam site, I feel like I need to respond.

    My established (8 years) and reputable brick and mortar bookstore has been receiving many phone calls regarding the site that was established using Vendio, and a variety of names (textbarn/Big Red Barn Books), among others. Because the site does not list a phone number, people are googling Red Barn Books and contacting my business inquiring about their order.

    Unfortunately this is a poor reflection of my business and I feel like I need to defend us on any site that has a complaint regarding this vendio site (that has a similar name).

    Red Barn Books in Greensburg, PA is in NO way connected to the site etablished through vendio. We have our own established website (www.redbarnbooks.com). We have thousands of happy customers and are happy to help place an order for any book in print, as well as ebooks. We are a member of American Booksellers Association and have high feedback ratings on all of our third party selling sites.

    Please do not confuse our business with this site! We are in the process of getting this site removed and/or taking legal action if it is not.

  • i really and truly wished i had seen this before i bought from this company i spent just under 20 dollars for a text book four days ago. and when i had a serious go at this woman suddenly it becomes mine and the hurricanes fault. but what i tried to explain to her is that you cant blame either the customer or myself because one i paid almost 20 dollars for express shipping two i ordered a book from amazon the same time and day and got it the next day without having to spend almost 20 dollars. also when i ordered the book i didnt even get an email confirmation i had to email once before to get the usps tracking number but usps says basically they were told by the seller to expect a package but that doesnt mean it has been shipped yet. these people are terrible people and dangerous. and you know what i am proud of the fact that i gave that woman a piece of my mind i mean its safe to say i wont be getting my money back. or the package but if that is the case i will be going to the fair trading commision and reporting them i wont stop until this place goes out of business they are awful!

  • Once again I will defend our store. This buyer ordered directly in the middle of a major service outage due to the hurricane when most of our customer are being patient and considerate.

    After Kaila was sent her tracking number she was kind enough to write us the following email:

    "Where the hell is my book it's been 4 days! When you took the payment it didn't take you four days to take said payment. I'm telling you now don't mess with me I better get an email from whoever is in charge explaining what happened."

    This is one out of the many ugly emails she continues to write every few minutes.

    We asked her nicely not to use foul language and, she very arrogantly replied and explained she can do as she pleases amongst further ugly comments. She also accused that we were using hurricane Irene as an excuse. Citing she ordered from Amazon and that since that book had arrived already, that our shipment should have too. Obviously this logic is absurd as Amazon has numerous shipping warehouses all over the US and we are a small seller with one warehouse. Her insensitivity to the matter is a little disturbing as many people have lost much more than a book that was ordered at the last minute for school. We understand many college students wait until the last minute to order and we gladly bend over backwards to help them. However, most are decent enough not to resort to the use of foul language, curse words, and threats when an issue arises. It is our policy to not tolerate this behavior in any shape or form. We also reserve the right to suspend users accounts indefinitely for submitting them. Kaila, falls into this category and we have asked her not to purchase from us again.

    let me tell you something when i made the purchase on good faith from your company i was under the impression that you have given that my items would be shipped in a timely manner. not only did you not give me a tracking number when i first placed the order i had to email you for it. so last time i checked you have no right to be indignant. my classes have started i still dont have the book that i purchased with the extra shipping i have paid. and furthermore dont use the hurricane as an excuse i ordered another book from another company the same night didnt spend almost 20 dollars for shipping and received next day delivery. so as far as im concerned ill use whatever language i choose because last time i checked i have all rights

    You will refuse/return to sender once the item arrives and it will be returned to us. A refund will then be issued.

    Please do not open the package so you don't have to pay anything for the return. We don't want you to go on another one of your tirades or hurt yourself.

    why thankyou ms. burns you know i googled your company after the fact seems like there are a number of angry customers like myself who foolishly want what they paid for and have given you a hard time with their 'tirades' as you call them. by the way i ordered from amazon seems they didnt have any trouble sending any product even after irene funny that isnt it. maybe if you dont have contingency plans in place for storms your in the wrong business. just a suggestion. have a nice night :-)

    Just so you know, comparing us to Amazon is like comparing this little ruckus you're stirring to an atomic bomb.  What you are missing is that Amazon has hundreds of warehouse locations not to mention that when you buy from the Amazon marketplace it can ship from virtually every city and every state.  We have one location.  Got it? Probably not.  But that doesn't really matter.

     I can see that you have sought out to slander us which is very predictable considering your history already. I will leave you with this. You only hurt yourself when you get all worked up and start cursing at other people. You will never get your way and you will live a very unhappy life unfortunately. One lost sale, angry customer, whatever you are, and a little comment on a website somewhere is nothing for us. But for you, possessing these repulsive characteristics you so proudly display is an insufferable pity. I hope you change you ways in the future. I am sad for you. I won't be replying to you any further. I suggest you do the same.

    You learned me good Kaila!  Clearly you're just a poor kid who has a lot of growing up to do and that's why it is all very forgivable.  Nothing I explain to you will register because well. Let's face it. You got to get that education and that is one thing I will give you. You're trying!  And that's good. Believe it or not. Little arguments like this only make you stronger.  That doesn't change the fact that someone needed to put you in your place as I did. I don't care what you think really.  But just so you know. By definition. A scam is someone who takes your money, gives you nothing and then runs away.  We sent you the item and I am here responding to your verbal abuse.  So just another little lesson for ya.  See, even without your book you're learning stuff!  Isn't this great? Thank you for "learnin me" on all that stuff you did back there.  It sure was fun.  But In the future, I wouldn't recommend posting undeniable ignorance on an internet page. That stuff tends to stick around for a while. You might have to try and apply for a job one day at Hardees. You never know.

    As to the few unhappy customers.  It is inevitable that a company, big or small will have unruly customers. There are some people that are just unreachable when it comes to reason, decency and the respect of others.

  • finally according to ms. burns my email has been blacklisted and i will no longer be able to buy from the company and her employees dont have to be subjected to threats and confrontational language. i would like to point out my emails go to ms. burns and she is the one replying in all of them. well one thing we have made progess on is that she realizes i havent used and curse words. baby steps but step nonetheless. the funny thing and i do mean funny she says the order has been cancelled and the decision is final.... really!!! wow thats what i wanted in the first place.

I am very aware that we did nothing but ship your book on time. That is why I will vigorously defend our policy not to put up with irrational people such as yourself. Believe it or not. There really aren't as many as you think out there. So when they do come out. I fight! And I am actually very glad you are in the military. Isn't that like say, Lying!. I don't know. Trust me I know the type of person you are and I simply choose to not let you get away with your little schemes. The irony lies in that in effort to complete your scam against me in trying to get a refund. You go to a scam reporting site. If I was scamming you.   • this website is a total scam! i never received ANYTHING! i ordered a intro to policing book on ebay and realized it was an earlier version so i had to go to textbarn to buy the right version. a week passed and i didnt receive anything so i emailed them asking if it was on its way and i got an email back with a tracking number only to find it was the tracking number from my ebay purchase! (I knew because i had sent them to different addresses) so i emailed them back saying that wasn't the right tracking number because i had shipped the book to another city and i never got a response!

  • Actually, Amazon.com does NOT have hundreds of warehouses. Only a few in fact but understandably so, Amazon.com is successful at what they do...Big Red Barn books the vendio merchant is not! 17 days ago I ordered a book. I still haven't received it yet. I'm half tempted to file a claim with PayPal to get my money back. I sent an email inquiring about the item I purchased and I got a reply a week later explaining that the item I purchased "was shipped promptly". Well promptly must be a debatable speed in the present day because I have shipped items promptly after selling and the buyers received their items within 4-5 days...not 17 days and counting. I didn't give them sketchy email replies either. I tell folks where it is being shipped from and I tell them what the shipping date was. I guess common courtesy is debatable now too in the present day! I wouldn't recommend using this seller at all! Prompt for this seller does not mean the same thing that it does in the dictionary. It's been 17 days and I still do not have my item. How very very disappointing!

  • I too ordered some books from Big Red Barn. Over two weeks later I have no books and they won't respond to my emails. I paid through paypal so I filled a dispute and supposedly I'm getting a refund. Great, but now I'm two weeks into my class and no books. Big Red Barn STINKS!!!

  • I got a refund after I filed a dispute. I received a message with the refund on paypal that asked me to let them know if the book arrived. Well if it does, I'm going to send it back with delivery confirmation. Buyers pay for shipping but sellers need to ensure their quality by purchasing delivery confirmation, it's less than a dollar and if the seller(s) are that hard up for a dollar then perhaps he/she/they should increase the cost of product(s) by a dollar. I never ship without delivery confirmation. I want to be protected as a seller (I sell on amazon) and I have quality standards and I do care about my reputation. Although I have been made whole once again via the refund I am considering contacting the BBB about this. A word to Big Red Barn you have a marketing myopia (that's when I company loses sight of its mission, fails to please the consumer) I only say this because your company name and operations are expressed negatively on several internet forums including this one. Of course as a business student I don't like to see anyone fail at running a business so if you can take this as constructive criticism I believe it would be beneficial to you. Purchase delivery confirmation and provide the numbers to your customers it will eliminate complaints like mine and all the others. Good luck to Big Red Barn and to anyone doing business with them.
