Received a phone call today the voice said I grandma, I said David where are you I do not reconize the phone number. He said I am in Panama on vacation and I have a problem. My friend and I rented a car and while sitting at a stop sign we were t-boned. I said are you hurt and he said not much, the air bag deployed and I have 6 stitches in my bottom lip. I said well no wonder you didn't quite sound like yourself. I said when are you coming home and he said hopefully tomorrow, so I said what is the problem. He said the insurance on the rental car is paying for the damage to the car, but I have to wait for the police report to come back before they will give me the check. The flight is for tomorrow, and they have taken our passport so we can not leave until this is resolved. We don't have enough money to stay here or pay for a new flight back. I said is there not someone there who can help you? He said I did call the US Embassy and a representive is here with me now but they can't really do anything either. So I said well if you need money what are we talking about. He said I need $2500.00 and I will pay you back when the check gets sent to me. I told him I did not have that kind of money and he hung up on me. I was very concerned for my grandson and made several call, finally I called his girl friend and he answered the phone. My grandson was very upset as we thought someone had stolen his identity. He said he would call me back in a few minutes, and when he did he had gone on the internet googled scams in Panama City and found that someone else had gotten taken for the $2500.00. I am from Spokane Washington and just wanted to get the word out that it continues and be ware.
