Shane Kellar had an ad on Auto trader for a 2002 Toyota Tacoma listed at $4800. I inquired about the ad, and he replied with the following:

The vehicle is still available for sale, price as stated in the ad $4800.It's in perfect working order, no wear and tear, no scratches, it wasn't involved in any accidents.I moved to Spain with my work but I left the vehicle at a shipping company in Thunder Bay, Ontario. All shipping costs and insurance during transportation are included in the price, I won a promotion(1 free shipping). You will also receive all necessary documents in order to finalize the purchase. Email me back if you're interested and have further questions.

I emailed him back saying I was wary of the possible scam factor and asked for the name of the shipping/ holding company so I could contact them and verify the legitimacy of this vehicle. He replied with this:

Like I said the vehicle is in storage at the shipping company, they don't handle presentations or payments of the vehicles they have, they only deliver them at a specified address. That's why I choose eBay as a third party. Look how this works:

1. I will contact eBay and give all the info about this deal.
2. They will send us the forms by email - for you about the payment.
3. I will send the vehicle to your location and you will send a 50% deposit to eBay.
4. After you will inspect the vehicle and decide to keep it, they will transfer the money into my account.

RETURN POLICY:
If by any reason the vehicle is not as described, or if you find any problems with it I will pay for the returning fees. I'm sure it won't be the case because the vehicle is in excellent condition. As soon as the vehicle arrives, you will test it and if it does not match 100% to your expectations, you will return it in max. 5 working days since the arrival date. In this case you will send me the vehicle in the same condition you received it. The estimated time of delivery is 2 to 5 days, with no scratches, it is professionally crated. Please provide me with your full name and shipping address so I can register the deal with eBay.

I decided to risk it, knowing that eBay was a trusted company and would protect me from any scams. This would be the case if it was indeed the "real eBay" not a fake. I proceeded with sending the eBay agent "Duane Ruben Harwell" two portions of $2300 via Western Union. When the expected delivery date came along, and I didn't receive the vehicle, I called eBay Motors and gave them my Case ID. They said that number was not in their system, and I was likely a victim of fraud.

Hopefully my local authorities will be able to find this guy with the help of Western Union and get all the people who fell for this their money back.

  • I am so sorry to hear that you got scammed by this low life.

I to got the same story from Shane Kellar a few weeks ago for a Mazda Tribute that was dirt cheap. After reading his reply e-mail and he had asked for 1/2 the money through e-bay motors, i took the liberty and searched "Shane Kellar" on Google. I found another post with the "word for word" email.

I did reply to him after finding this out and made I lame excuses about Western Union and how ebays preferred method of payment is Pay Pal. He had excuses for everything, I continue to play with him and waste his time, hopefully protecting another innocent victim.

I have made a gmail account with a different name for my own safety, I have sent him to the Western Union 3 times with an invalid MTCN # to waste his time, he gets quite irrate, as he also is "duane Harwell" from ebay motors as well.

One thing I beleive I have identified that he is in the Seattle, Washington area .... I have read other compaints on this guy, and that is where he seems to be situated.

The unfortunate part is these scammers are getting smart, and have all the documents to make it seem real, first rule is.

If it seems to good to be true, it probally is.
Never ever send any unknown person money by Western Union or any other wire transfer company. As Once it's sent, its gone for good.

    Sincerely

    Faye Kinnit (fake name)
