Complaint 130345 Details

I paid Outskirts.com altogether $2202 between July 15th and July 21, 2011, first $899 for the publishing package called "Diamond Book Publishing" and then their editing service for $1302), totaling $2202. I had problems with communicating with my Author Representative named Jennifer Rush. When I called, she never answered; when I leave messages, she didn't return my calls for days. During 4 months I dealt with her, I only talked to her twice on the phone. I complained about her to her supervisor named, Cherry Breeding, but she said, Jeniffer is "very good at what she does" and that she couldn't replace her. Such a waste of money and waste of time. Jennifer was not in tune with my concerns. She was probably working with 20-50 other authors, who knows. Her information was often incorrect, and she didn't keep up her words. The second time I was on the phone with her, I heard a baby screaming in the background.
She was a mom of her newborn and messing with my intellectual work at the same time. This told me that Outskirts emplyees are not book professionals! My dealing with them was an agonizing period of emailing and leaving messages without any progress. During the production period, in which they charged $121 for correcting my errors I submitted they couldn't correct my errors "correctly" and added more errors to the book! Basically I was paying money while I was correcting "their" errors. The company advertise that their authors are 99% satisfied, but it's a complete lie. The editing work cost me $1303 (plus $13.30 because I added a few more words during the revision), but the editor placed so many "unnecessary" commas, among other unprofessional editing work she did. Still, since invested so much money into the publishing, I wanted to work with them, only to confirm that it was waste of money and waste of time. I finally backed out. I asked Cherry Breeding if they could reimburse part of $899 for Diamond Book publishing service I purchased, since they are not doing the "extras" that comes after the book was in print, but she said no. She insted that I should let them publish my book, even after what I went through!
I am 71 year old author of three novels, who also writes columns for the Kansas City Star-Johnson County Neighborhood News. Dealing with such incompetent people was too frustrating for me. Would you please help me recover some of fund ($2202) they charged me upfront? Mostly, this kind of company shouldn't be in business.
