Shane was selling a 2001 GMC 1500 Pick Up on AutoTrader.ca He told me that he is currently in Spain (transferred for his job) and that the truck was at a shipping compound in Thunder Bay, ON Canada. The truck was $4000 which included e-test, certified and shipping (he won free shipping in a promotion). I told him I was wary of purchasing a vehicle that I never seen, test drove etc and he said that the transaction is done through eBay, which is protected. He said he would not receive any money until I emailed eBay ([email protected]) and told them that the vehicle is in 100% condition as advertised. I had to make a $2000 deposit by WesternUnion and provide eBay with the MTCN #. Once I confirmed the payment, I sent them the information and then I was informed that the shipping proess was underway. Ebay then confirmed that the truck would be shipped on Monday, June 25, 2012, and that the shipping company would contact me 2 hours prior to the delivery. EBay then sent me an email asking for the final $2000, which I sent. I received an email from Shane stating that I would love the truck and I haven't heard anything from him since. I have emailed him asking for the tracking number. I then starting looking online and found that there are scams out there with his name and same information.
I feel sick to my stomach. I have all the emails and pictures of the truck that he was selling.

I sincerely thank you for sharing your very unfortunate experience here. Just today, I was in contact with this same Shane, same details (Spain, Thunder Bay, EBay, Return Policy, etc.), except the vehicle was a 2003 Sienna. The details on this vehicle were also very enticing. I was considering having him send it my way, and for me to commit the deposit. But I googled his name and found your post. I really hope you can claim back your funds. I thought Ebay was a trustworthy name. This will allow me to second guess next time, why such a good vehicle is not sold for a better price through more conventional means. This may not mean much now, but my sincere gratitude to you for helping me to avoid this guy's trap. Best wishes to you. -

Same as Gideon. Thank you for sharing your experience. I inquired about a 2003 Nissan Murano posted on Autotrader that sounded too good to be true and received the same cock and bull story.
