After a contract three years with Protect America Alarm company, I phoned to cancel my monitoring service. They said I could not cancel my contract because it was automatically renewed for one year. They cited this clause in the contract, "Agreement will automatically continue for successive one-year renewal terms, as allowed by law, unless PAI receives a written notice of cancellation from customer via U.S. Mail or overnight mail postmarked at least sixty (60) days prior to the end of the initial term or any subsequent renewal term. Customer may be required to show proof of delivery." I asked them who in their right mind marks a calendar three years in advance to send a written cancellation notice. I told them to cease automatically billing my American Express Card. Protect America refused even though I told them the charges were unauthorized. They continued to bill my credit card for six months, until I called the American Express Company and told them not to accept anymore charges from this company. After several months I started getting invoices in the mail from Protect America. After about two years after I cancelled, I finally received a last bill for $653 dollars or services for monitoring equal to 21 months. The company then gave this bogus debt to Hillcrest, Davidson & Associates. I told this company the above, twice. They call everyday, two and three times a day. When you answer the phone a computer answers telling you to call their number. They reported this debt to the credit agency and my score was lowered by 40 points. This is a scam perpetrated by Protect America and Hillcrest to rip off the American public. If you go to Protect America's website and try to read the standard agreement, it won't let you scroll down to read it. Buyer's Beware.

  • WHAT SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM HERE??
I pasted your exact words from your complaint and it seems to me your disappointed in yourself for being careless & not attentive to what all is going on. "they cited": referring to Quality control, did so to you, no differently than any other QC dept or any company. QC reiterates the terms and conditions to every single customer, for this exact reasons that you exposed to all to judge. DUHHH! YOU> consumer Co. of far far away land, should know that every consumed product has its terms & conditions, Term/cond. is such simple BUS 101 knowledge.
QC cites this clause in the contract, "Agreement will automatically continue for successive one-year renewal terms,"

This is a verbal agreement that is recorded and kept for safe keepings just in case some Court of Law would like to see where the initial customer was unable to visually read in addition to negatively comprehend simple audios from a contract/TERM agreed, signed & dated by the purchaser years prior. Pay attention people, you can only blame yourself.
