Around June 28, 2011, after completing several payday loan applications online, which included info such as my SSN, DOB and bank account information, I was contacted via phone by someone advising me that I had been approved for a payday loan and also had been approved for an "American Express" credit card with a $9,500 limit. When he mentioned the $99.00 fee for the credit card, I told him that I didn't have any money in my bank account and wouldn't have until July 1st. I advised him that was the reason I was applying for a payday loan. I thought that was the end of it until several weeks later when I noticed the $99.00 had been taken out of my bank account! However, there were no payday loan proceeds deposited! The bank told me their records indicated that "customer had ordered via phone" and gave me the phone number to call. It took several weeks to get a live person on the phone and, when I finally spoke with someone, they advised that the fee was non-refundable. I told them that I had not approved any deductions from my bank account. Still, they said the fee was non-refundable! I was lucky, as my bank allowed me to complete an affidavit of fraud and the bank replaced the money in my account along with the 'bounced check' fees. Please do yourself a favor and hang up if these folks contact you via phone! Be very careful of sites where you apply for a payday loan - not all of them are legitimate. I learned this lesson the hard way!
