I WORK FOR A SMALL PRIVATE PHYSICIAN'S OFFICE. IN FEB. 2012, I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL ASKING TO BASICALLY VERIFY INFO RE: OUR ADDRESS. THE WAY THE GUY GLOSSED OVER THE NAME, AND WITH HIS ACCENT, IT SOUNDED LIKE THEY WERE THE REAL YELLOW PAGES, WITH WHOM WE DO ADVERTISE. THEY NEVER SAID THE NAME OF OUR BUSINESS. THEY ASKED IF I WERE AUTHORIZED TO "ACCEPT AN INVOICE." NOT REALIZING THAT THIS WAS HOW THEY SIGN YOU UP, I SAID YES, MEANING SIMPLY THAT I CAN ACCEPT MAIL. ON 5/18, I GET THE "INVOICE" IN THE MAIL, AND IT IS FOR $600+. IT HAS MY NAME, BUT THE BUSINESS NAME IS ONE THAT HAS NOT EXISTED FOR 3 YEARS. I CALL THE 800 # AND ACCUSE THE COMPANY OF SCAMMING ME. SHE OFFERS TO PLAY THE RECORDED CONVERSATION - I TOLD HER IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT I SAID - I AM NOBODY, AND CAN AUTHORIZE NOTHING. PLUS, I WOULD NOT HAVE EVEN VERIFIED THE ADDRESS INFO IF THEY HAD SAID THE NAME OF THE COMPANY, BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE STATED RIGHT AWAY THAT IT NO LONGER EXISTS. SHE SAID SHE WOULD HAVE SOMEONE FROM COLLECTIONS CALL ME...
