I paid 1,669 dollars for a 30,000 mile extended warranty on a used 2004 subaru. The car has had transmission and electrical breakdowns that have for one loophole reason or another not been covered. And now the engine in the car has "locked up" according to the mechanic and Alpha will not cover the engine, saying that there was some kind of user error without any evidence of that other than assumption. The Mechanic said that the reason for the engine failure is unknown. But but appeal still went begging! I'm out 7,000 for the engine and 1,669 for the warranty

  • Paid Claim of $685.80, Other Non-Covered Repair

We recognize that receiving notice that your claim has been denied is not pleasant news to receive, nor is it pleasant news to deliver. We are glad to see that despite this frustration, the customer was able to obtain coverage when his transmission seal failed. In fact, we paid $685.80 to replace his transmission seal back in 2011.

We would like to take the opportunity to provide additional information on the claims that the customer is referring to. The transmission breakdown that the customer mentions was a transmission seal. His plan did not cover seals and gaskets. Regardless, we paid $685.80 to help the customer get his vehicle back on the road.

In April of 2012, the customer called in a claim stating that the engine wouldn’t start and that it had overheated. The Subaru dealership where the vehicle was being repaired found that “the vehicle overheated so badly because they ran out of coolant and continued to drive the vehicle until it stopped.” The Subaru dealership went on to say that they “can’t find the leak because the heads and gaskets are so warped that we can’t pressure test.”

As a standard in vehicle service contracts, overheating is not covered. We try to be as clear as possible in the plan agreements so as to avoid these types of unfortunate situations. In fact, we have a section in the agreement dedicated to explaining What to Do In Case of A Breakdown. It states, “Use all reasonable means to protect the Vehicle from further damage. This may require You to stop the Vehicle, turn off the engine, and have the Vehicle towed.”

As stated by the repair facility, the vehicle lost coolant and was driven until it would no longer move.

We provide free roadside assistance so that in the event that a vehicle exhibits problems, the driver can stop, turn off the car and receive free towing to avoid further damage. It was unfortunate that this didn't happen as the engine arrived with widespread damage.
