I answered an ad in Cars.com on a 2007 Cadillac Escalade. The seller Sgt. Rachel Chambers (aka Jessica Wells) informed me via email that she was being deployed to Afghanistan the 20th of April and needed everything to happen by then. I checked everything out or so I thought. The VIN# checked out (yes we even called GM), she really existed (at least by name anyway) and the car fax with the VIN # checked out. She also assured me that Amazon Payments was handling the whole thing. I have used Amazon before and felt comfortable with them. After she (or whoever) got my $17,550.00, everyone disappeared off the face of the map. Amazon denies any knowledge of the vehicle, but they are sorry it happened. (that makes me feel a whole lot better!). I sure hope they catch these bastards. I hold Cars.com and Amazon responsible for this. They should check who advertises on thier website a little better.

  • The same person is trying to sell to me as I write this. I'm glad I found your post before I paid!!! Current email used by "SGT Rachel Chambers" is [email protected] . I raised red flags when the seller on Cars.com was listed as Michael and that wasn't who responded to me. Then the signature was different in two emails from "Chambers". Thank you Frank for saving my money!
The following is the post I was scammed on:

  • Why is it that Amazon hasn't been able to stop these scams? That is exactly why if you buy online it should be with someone who has their own processing account and isn't taking paypal or amazon. At least you know they have been reviewed and confirmed they have an actual business with actual merchandise. And if you sell online it's so much better for your own protection to get your own processing. I use Merchant Inc www.merchantinc.com. And they would never allow someone to take payment in the way Amazon has been allowing these scammers!
