My mother gave her SS# and bank account # to a foreign-accented woman over the phone. When she hung up she went to her bank and told them what she had done and not to let anyone debit her account. Well, the bank did it anyway. Now it has appeared on her bank statement, and the bank is trying to get her money back. I don't know how to keep old people from giving out information over the telephone. As many times as we have warned her about talking to someone she doesn't know personally, she not only talked to them, but gave them her info as well. Expensive lesson learned I am sure. So damned frustrating!
