My life has been in turmoil over the last 2 years my husband of 27 years passed away I was forced to sell our home of 18 years and move into an apartment. When I moved in I got Direct TV but after only a few months there were problems with the apartment and I had to move, so I moved into a new apartment and signed a 3 year lease I was all set to have my Direct TV installed and was told by my new landlord that he did not allow it on his properties, no way no how. So I contacted Direct TV expecting them to understand my dilemma and they would allow me out of my contract and was shocked when their representative told me that it was not a legitimate excuse and that I would be charged an early termination fee of $825.00 but that I would get $270.00 back after I returned the equipment, I asked to speak to a supervisor they gave me someone named Ken (I have is last name in my E mails I saved at my office) and he said he understood and would send me the boxes and he would take care of it, after several weeks and no boxes or word from Ken I decided to call him when I did I was informed they had no Ken but they would be happy to help me if I told them the situation. She gave me the standard company line that I would have violated my agreement and would be charged an early termination fee of $825.00 so again I asked for a supervisor and was told that was the policy and there was nothing they could do however they were sympathetic to my situation, I again asked for the boxes and also talked to my landlord who reiterated that Direct TV was not allowed on the premises of his properties so now I am stuck in the middle. The boxes arrived and I went to check my bank account where I was shocked to find out that $825.00 had been withdrawn from my account without my approval, so I called Direct TV and again told them the situation and they were still not willing to do anything except repeat the same line that this was their policy but there was still time for them to install the dish and that the money they have taken would be credited to my Direct TV account as I said before this is not an option I am stuck in a catch 22 and need help unfortunately I have been forced to live pay check to pay check and now because of this I have checks bouncing and other bills I cannot pay I need help and I need it now!!! I had a friend call Direct TV and he spoke to 3 of their customer representatives and he gave them the scenario that he was new to the area and that he was going to move to a new apartment on a month to month basis until he found an apartment and area he liked and could he have the service moved in all three cases yes in two cases he was told there would be no additional charge in the third he was told there could be a small fee, he than presented my scenario that if he moved and was not allowed to have Direct TV even though he had signed a 24 month contract would he get a full refund and without even a hesitation was told Direct TV would end his contract and not be in violation of his contract because it is of no fault of his and there would be no penalty as long as he returned the equipment in the provided boxes. When I called and gave him the names of the three different people he spoke to they had no knowledge of any of them and that he must have been misinformed, I found that to be pretty amazing that three people from the same company had given out the same information and that no one knew who any of these people were, just like when I called for Ken. It seems to me that they will tell you anything to sell you their service then when you become a customer they quickly change things I think they should change their name to Direct Skeive. Please help me get my money back NOW thank you.

  • I don't know what you have decided to do but here is my advice: I would 1. accept the service, have the dish put on a pole. 2. go to your bank and file a dispute with the bank.3. After the money is returned to your account, close the account and get another one with new #,do not give DTV your new #. 4.If it is too late for this, you can ask for this to be settled in arbitration.5. At any rate change your account #.I wish you Good Luck and I am so sorry for the loss of your husband.

  • Alvin..FYI... Landlords can and do have the right not to allow DirectTv to place their satellite dish on their property! DirectTV is well known for destroying property and leaving their unwanted dish still attached to the property after the customer has D/C their service. If you had read my advice you would have seen that I advised her to accept the service until she can get her money refunded from DirectTV because this is her only hope of getting her money refunded.I know first hand how dirty DTV is and how they lie to their customers. I stand by every word I said. You have to play dirty with DTV because that is the way they operate. Hopefully she can get her refunded from these thieves.
