I received a telemarketing phone call from USBI 3/11/2011 with an offer to save substantial money on my Verizion long distance bills.
I was led to believe that USBI was an authorized billing service to Verizion customers and if I agreed to their service that day I would have 3 days to cancel and at any time after that, all I had to do was call to cancel the service. After agreeing to their terms through an elaborate third party confirmation process I called Verizion to verify
USBI's claim. Verizion advised me to stay away from this service!
Less than 12 hours later I called USBI to cancel the service.
They said " No problem, It has been taken care of as of 3/12/2011".
On 4/01/ 2011 I received a Verizion statement for $291.01
My normal monthly bill for 3 packaged services for Internet, Cable TV and phone was on average $165.00. I immediately called Verizion and was told that because USBI is now billing my long distance service, my packaged service has been terminate and I am being charged an early termination fee for breaking the contract with Verizon. I explained that USBI should not be billing for long distance because it was canceled. and no one notified me that that my bundled service with Verizion would be terminated. The rep. explained that because of anti-monopoly Verizon had no authority nor responsibility in this matter as they could not prevent USBI from providing this service and the issue was between me and USBI.
I promptly called USBI and they said that their records show my cancelation call was recorded 3/18/2011 and not within the time limit of the 3 day window for cancelation even though I had called within 12 hours of the offer. I complained that there had been no mention of how USBI billing service would impact my contract with Verizon and I was told that USBI was not responsible for any charges that may result between me and Verizion. But, I said USBI had told me the service had been canceled when I called on 3/12.
She said her records show that the cancelation call was recorded
on the 3/18/2011 but she would cancel the service as of now.
I thought, well I'll have to eat the Verizion termination charge but at least USBI will stop billing me and blocking my ability to get the packaged service from Verizion.
Wrong I am still receiving bills monthly through Verizon from USBI
and Verizion says they can't stop USBI from billing me.
Every month when I call USBI to cancel and complain, I'm told that their service will be canceled as of the the date I called, but the bills continue.
I called the New york FCC and I was told that no agency exits
to deal with this issue.

I WANT THEM STOPPED!
