  • fred. I just read your report. that sucks. sorry to hear that happened to you. couple of things I might suggest to you about this. first of all, I am an engineer myself, not a janitor or garbage man talking to you.lol
    I also have a 2004 f150 with the 4.6 v-8. these are the ford triton engines and have been around for over 20 yrs now. and have used the same spark plugs from the first engines. they are deep seated plugs and are tough to get at. granted, ford designed that crap but overall the triton is a great engine with few problems. the plug was made by motorcraft if it was an oem plug and could have had a defective plug. i.e, a tiny fracture in the thread or a stress point in the metal itself. first question I'd ask you is if the engine at anytime been exposed to water? high water, or have you ever washed your engine at a car was etc? water could have bypassed the seal and overtime corroded the plug. but, and heres my opinion, even if it had been, that was more the fault of the mechanic, not fords. if a plug does not want to release due to corrosion or any other reason, only an idiot would lay down on it with a break over bar until they twist off the plug. the solution is to flood the plug with penetrating oil and allow it to sit overnight in a pool of penetrant and try it again next morning. you dont muscle it off with a cheater bar. that was a stupid thing to do. but most mechanics I've met arent very bright. secondly, even if he did twist off the plug, he could probably get the stem out by using an easy-out tool or a left handed drill bit. thirdly, if that didnt work, he could drill the plug stem out completely using a drill slightly smaller than tap size and then cut the remains out with a tap. or drill the threads out completely and then tap the hole and install a heli-coil which would bring the threads back to plug size. helicoils work very well and parts houses sell kits for them exclusively for spark plug sizes. removing the head was the last resort if all else failed. I would call this mechanic stupidity myself and hold the dealership ressponsible before blaming ford. as I mentioned, I am an engineer myself. but I am also a competant machinist and have worked with machine tools for over 40 years. and I can just about assure you that I could have removed that plug and/or remedied this without removing the head of that engine. my opinion...........the mechanic is a baffoon

  • I purchased a 2008 F150 new with Ford extended warranty. At 93000 miles my engine started ticking. Ford said it was "cam phaser failure and tried to fix it under warranty. They failed. Then they said it might need an engine. After they pulled the engine out, Ford denied the warranty. First, they need service records, then the engine was "varnished" and they said it had sludge in the pan (all I saw was clean oil and what looked like a few grains of sand.) I gave them service records for the truck. Then they said the records don't show vin numbers so they don't count. When I talked to the executive office, they said the oil was burned in the engine. The oil had been changed less than 100 miles earlier by Ford dealer when they first tried to fix the cam phaser. Ford ESP only saw the new oil. I was a die hard Ford fan. Not any more. Fords Extended Service Plan is a joke. I now have an F150 under "warranty" sitting a dealership needing a $6500 engine. See a pattern here? Avoid the pain, buy foreign.
