International boundaries

I started trying to book a flight last Thursday but when they sent me the information about the bank details, I couldn't understand why their UK bank account didn't have a sort code and account number, they were only giving international bank account information. I kept asking them to sent the local bank account information.

Beneficiary name: TS Agency, Ltd.
Beneficiary address: Flight Scanner Online, Ltd, Raina Bulvaris 11, Riga, LV-1050, Latvia
Bank: Natwest Bank
Bank address: 65 Aldwych, London, WC2B 4EJ, UK
swift/BIC : NWBKGB2L
Account (IBAN): GB29NWBK60070640720489

On Friday someone called me on a number that registered 021972001. He spoke with, what appeared to be, an Indian accent. I had two phone calls, both times he asked me how I was going to make payments and insisted that I could make bank transfers or Western Union and they would pick up the tab.

I was really suspicious of the authenticity of the company but because the website was so detailed, it seemed unlikely that it was fake and their statement that they purchase airmiles to reduce the cost of tickets seemed plausable. I had masses of flights to book and was really worried about the hike in prices that happened over the past few weeks. So I booked one flight as a test.

I made the bank transfer on Monday.

I received the electronic tickets as promised this morning. I phoned the airline to confirm they were real. They are not. Curiously the company is so disorganised that they actually sent me two sets of tickets, one for another flight that I hadn't even booked.

I want to get the word out there as quickly as possible that this is a scam because I googled the name of the company but I couldn't find any information about them and that was why I proceeded with the order....

Below are the contact details I was given for the company

  • Dear Liz, thank you very much for your Adv. I want here to tell my story.
This website has offered me a ticket less by $200 where the original cost is 500. They sent me a real booking on Qatar Airlines and told me that its deactivated until I pay the fees within 48hrs. I went to Qatar Airways main office in Dubai and they confirmed that the ticket is real and has been booked at price of $554 whereas the flight scanner online have offered to me at $375. This has made me skeptical as they have requested me to pay thru WU or bank transfer, however the Qatar Airways agent told me this booking can be cancelled at anytime by paying $50, so I believe the scam website is waiting for me to pay the money and thereafter they will cancel my booking. Thanks again for your Alert.

  • Hey there - really glad you were prevented from losing any more money. Thanks for letting me know - it sucks being ripped off but at least this makes me feel like I'm doing something about it. All the best in your search for flights - I've decided to just stick with nice safe airline sites from now on!!!

  • Liz - thanks for this good post. Like you I have a number of flights to take over the next few months covering half the globe. I've been trying to get good business class fares from airline websites, Expedia etc and they are all a bit on the high side.

I then came across flight scanner online and couldn't believe the difference, when I converted the US dollar fare into GBP. The thing is when it looks unbelievable, it usually is and you experience shows that.

I was suspicious about the Latvia and London telephone numbers and the fact that they couldn't take credit cards (they say their bank says it should be fixed in a couple of weeks - but when was that posted) and would only deal with PayPal and Western Union also made me more suspicious, which is why I started searching the web for any information on them. Glad I came across this.

Thanks again and I hope you get some resolution and somebody gets this lot offline, which is something I might follow up.

    Mike

  • Dear Mike
Thanks for your post. I believe I have some information by which we can trace these people but unfortunately I am living in Dubai where I believe the scamers are either in the UK or Latvia and I dont know how or where to complain in order to stop these people from fooling any other folks. I appreciate if you have some information by which I can file a case against this scam website and those who are behind it.

    Abdul
