AutoKitShop.ws made an unauthorized charge for $9.50 to my Bank of America debit card on 12/08/11. I've never bought anything from AutoKitShop and don't know who they are. I visited my local Bank of America branch today. Their customer service was fantastic, easy and fast. The manager canceled and cut up my card, issued me a temp card and ordered me a new card with a new number. She explained that not cancelling the card could result in another, and possibly greater compromise to my account. The manager then had me speak with Bank of America's fraud department by phone. The rep initiated a three-way call to the phone number listed for AutoKitShop. We were greeted by an automated service which kept us on hold. We stayed on hold for three minutes before the rep ended the call to AutoKitShop. The Bank of America rep confirmed that the company used my debit card number, but could not confirm if they used the expiration date or CSC/CSV number on the back of the card. The rep also said she was already familiar with the offending company. Bank of America credited my account the full amount of the disputed charge. I asked the bank's manager how this company could have acquired my debit card info. She said it was most likely the result of a data breach at a company where I had used my debit card. I didn't actually expect a specific answer, but I had to ask anyway. I'd really love to know how this happened.
