I was contacted by a female from this company stating that I owed a payday loan from 2007 and that they were going to file felony charges against me and that I would be served papers in a few days if I did not agree to settle with them for 1500$. She knew a lot of personal information about me and with that I took her as being serious, also knowing I did indeed let a payday loan fall into default due to unemployment around that time. So I agreed to pay $50 a week until the end of Oct. I was told that I would receive some literature in the mail about our agreement and receipts to show that I was paying the debt. So four weeks later, I started getting a bad feeling when I never received anything from this company via mail. I have legalshield, so I contacted them on this matter. I was advised that payday loans are illegal in NC now and the companies lost the rights to collect any debts. Also, that threatning someone over the phone is also illegal. They advised me to go to my bank and cancel my debit card and get a new checking account. I did that first thing this morning. I filed fraud charges with my bank and they are going to return my money to me within 5 business days. My lawyer stated to me if you get a phone call from someone claiming they are going to "serve" you with papers..or you owe money for a payday loan...hang the hell up! It's a scare tactic used by scammers to get someone to pay money! Please spread the word...I feel so sorry to those of you who are not as lucky as I have been on getting my money back.
