Home insurance company refuses to cover damage in policy. Handled many small issues on own, but when a wind storm in May torn up my roof, caused water leakage in home, knocked down trees, I decided to use my policy. I pay, so I shouldn't have fear of making a claim, but the water damage was more than I could do on own. Inspector stated whole roof was damaged, but would cover only rear side with missing shingles, not front where water comes into home. Insp. claims wear - my roof still has 5 years under warranty and did not have the holes he reports now seeing 2.5 years earlier when small patch was fixed in rear - no other issues with roof then. Insurance sent company to tarp leak, which they failed to do, only put patch and I had leaks continue in next rain 5 days later. Same 5 spots. Inspector returned to speak with roofer and me. Tried to say other company caused damage, which caused more leaks, which I countered several times. The damage was before the company, was the reason the company was there, and they did not cover area. They did not cause other leaks. Yet inspector turned for insurance report that I, the insured, claimed the company caused water damage - false and fraudulent report. Inspector noted holes across the front of the roof. Told me I needed an entire roof. Told us that my roofer was asking $1000 less than the general formula used by insurance. Shook hands with my roofer, but after my roofer left, inspector asked me to pay 7x my deductible to get it done. No leaks before storm in the 8 years I have owned the home, yet he was desperately seeking excuses for anything but the storm to have coincidentally happened at the same time. Insurance lied in their reports. Even my agent who works for the company was seeking coverage for the water damage for which I contacted insurance in the first place, and he was denied without any known reason. Policy covers damage, but insurance won't cover. They turn in fraudulent statements and have excuses without substance. I have facts. For 3 months insurance adjuster and inspector will not provide diagram of exactly what damage insurance is covering because I am allowing work only on what is covered. They expect me to do the entire roof and pay nearly half the costs/well over my deductible. Storm caused all damage. Insurance is choosing to not cover parts inclusive of the water damage for which the claim was made. Warning to any who would consider getting a policy with General Casualty, because they do not honor their policies, even with clients like me they have had for years.
