A person called me and said you won a free trial for magazines. He said he could put them on my credit card. I asked how they got my credit card number. He said we have a Visa ending in X1082. I asked how you got my credit card number and wasn't interested in any magazines. He hung up and my card was charges several times for a total of approx 325.00. I protested the charges immediately with the credit card company. They removed the charges and I cancelled the credit card.I recieved a bill for 200.00 and I called them up. They said they had a voice recording agreeing to a 5 year subscription for 49.99 a month. They didn't produce the recording at that time and didn't produce it later. This is a big scam.
They threatened to have this taken to a collection agency and sue me for 1500.00 I said it should be 3000.00 if it was 50.00 for 5 years then she went silent and said the contract was for 3 years I said that still doesn't add up and she hung up!
My concern is that they are in partnership with a shady collection agency and are able to report it to the credit bureaus effecting my credit. I'll protest it of course. But if they come back in thirty days saying it is correct. Then what? What is the burden of proof I signed no contract and got no invoice. I just keep getting magazines that I don't want. They said they'll sue for 1500.00. 95% chance it is not gone to happen. They where rated an F by tne BBB in Florida. Why don't they shut them down for fraud! Either the FTC or attorney General or the Post Master where do they get these magazines?
