  • This has happened to me as well. We were solicited door to door by Direct Energy (now clear view) over a year ago. My wife was unaware that she actually switched our electric supplier and thought it was more of a service call. The sales person was very deceptive and my wife was not allowed to ask questions of the person she needed to "talk to" over the sales persons cell phone to confirm the agreement. There was no mention of a potential rate hike. Fast forward to december of 2013. Our electric bill went from about 250.00 per month to 1200.00 per month. Pricing per KWH went from 8.5 cents to 21.5 cents during the heaviest usage time of the year without our knowledge. We are now in arrears $2200.00 with CLP and have no additional course of action but to pay them.

  • You are not the only one who does not pay attention to what is being said during the third-party verification call. I work for the company that does third-party verification for Clearview and other energy supply companies. Many people do not realize that they are actually enrolling while on the phone or are lead to believe that they are taking a survey. Unfortunately, yes, they do have you on audio answering that you agree to their terms and I know that there is nothing in your oral contract concerning early termination fees. I'm sorry you had to learn this lesson the hard way. Others learn from his mistake and take heed! This company is unscrupulous and preys on the elderly and those with English as their second language. The agents also have been known to impersonate customers during the third-party enrollment process. I hope to bring awareness to this problem.

  • This is my first post regarding this matter and I plan on posting many more. I work for the Third-Party Verification service retained by Clearview Energy and other energy supply companies. If you indeed enrolled, Clearview has the audio of you going through the enrollment process with a third-party verification agent. That is the documentation you need and which apparently they do not have, or they have audio of someone impersonating you to fraudulently enroll your account. Clearview Maryland agents are uneducated and immoral. They prey on the elderly and non-English speaking citizens of your state. Call back and ask about the recording of your supposed enrollment!
