Attention, parents and guardians: do you have a Comfy Carry or OnBoard infant car seat in your family’s vehicle? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the manufacturers, Dorel Juvenile Group, have issued a recall alert for these seats. The car seats were sold without a proper safety latch attachment, which puts infants at increased risk of injury during an accident.
According to the NHTSA, the recalled car seats were sold to customers at Walmart, Babies R Us, Meijer, Bed Bath & Beyond and online at BabyAge.com, Diapers.com and Amazon. Families who purchased these products unknowingly came home with seats that lacked the proper safety base and latch attachment. Without this latch attachment, the rear-facing car seats are difficult to install correctly. During an automobile accident, babies are at higher risk of injury. Infant car seats without safety latches fail to conform to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for child restraint systems.

recall notice on September 20, 2012. If you think your baby’s car seat might be one of the recalled models, check the model number and manufactured date. You can find this information on the side of the seat or underneath. Recalled seats are the Comfy Carry Model IC123FSM and OnBoard 35 Model Number IC124FSM manufactured between May 1, 2011 and April 25, 2012.
The Dorel Juvenile Group, who manufactured and sold the flawed seats, is currently notifying distributors and owners who registered their product. Bases with the latch attachment system will be sent, free of charge, to families who can verify that they own one of the affected units.
