I applied for a federal grant in order to open a BBQ restaurant. I was contacted by Pria Sethi who stated she worked for the federal government. This person told me that I didn't qualify for the grant I originally applied for however I did qualify for one that would give me $80,000 but I needed to submit a grant proposal within a short timeframe in order to receive the money. Pria informed me that she had a list of grant writers and would give my information to one that could write the grant for me. I was contacted by a Jeff O’Brien from Cooper Financial Services who told me they needed an itemized list with cost of everything I needed for the initial setup of my business. The cost for their services was $487.00 and would need to be sent in the form of a cashiers check. I did everything from contacting vendors to get price quotes to meeting with realtors for different locations; I was told I needed one primary location and a backup location along with insurance cost, equipment, and employee wages. I researched wages and salaries for my state to make sure I was accurate. The deadline was February 2, 2012 to have a cashier’s check sent to Enrique Wilson who was to send a nine page grant proposal to me by February 21, 2012 and I was to send it back to them within 24 hours so that it could be submitted. I never received the proposal. I called to find out what was happening and my calls were unanswered, I left messages that were not returned now the numbers are not in service.
