Today I received a phone call from Jake Green in the Public Yellow Pages collections department, stating we owed $599.99 for an annual subscription we had agreed to in October 2011 and our account is past due! Apparently, this company spoke with a staff person at my company to "verify" information such as phone number and address. They recorded the conversation and the woman making the call (Monica) spoke so quickly she was difficult to understand.

The staff person confirmed the information but did not know she had just committed to a sale! Monica never asked if the person she was speaking to was authorized to make purchases for the business (which she is not).

Jake played this recording for me twice, apparently this is their way of confirming you agreed to a sale? I am not confident the recording was fully authentic and asked for a transcript of it since Monica was difficult to understand. I was told by Jake "I am not a stenographer" and he declined to provide me with such a transcript. I asked to speak with his supervisor and was told no.

I know my staff person would never agree to a $599.99 purchase without approval and I feel that the tactics Public Yellow Pages used were manipulative and deceptive. Anyone taking this call would be led to believe this was for the Yellow Pages book just confirming a listing. We have never done business with this company before.

The actual web page provided to us for the substantial fee did not even include the information that Monica "confirmed" (incomplete fax, no physical address, no business type) and to top it off our company name was spelled wrong!
