I received a letter with a check enclosed for $3875.00. It stated that I was to pay the tax on my mega lottery winnings of $125,000.00. I was to call within 5 days of receiving the check and before I attempt to cash the check. I was to speak with Jeffery Miller at 289-892-4510. The letter was signed by Michelle Wilson (Promotional Manager). I must say that the check looks very legit and if an older person got it they might fall for the scam. The letter was addressed as follows:

SUNGARD
Promotional Manager
Prize and Award Presentation
SunGard Financial Securities Inc.
800 York Street, London ON N5W 2S9

My biggest concern is where did they get my address from?

  • They can get your address from about anywhere nowadays... Even with private numbers and such, you would have to stay totally off the grid to prevent your address from getting out there... The fun thing is, my wife got one of these today in the mail. It is her maiden name, and the address on the check doesn't match the address on the envelope... So they must have been trying for some time. The check does look legitimate... however, if you look really really closely... it is very hard to see; but the check says void all over the background. It is noticeable right above the lock, and then right above that two more times. You can tell where it is by the tiny dots they used to print it. It is also printed in another column on the left side and in between.
They mailed it in a Costco Wholesale envelope, and there are 2 businesses a few towns away from where we live... so it was rather well thought out by the scam artists... but the fact that the businesses were so close; and somehow tied to this UK lottery screamed scam to me. I hope this helps someone.
