I called AT&T on jan. 23 to see about getting internet service as I live in a rural area. The gentleman I talked to assured me that when he punched in my address, the system said I could get broadband internet service at my house. I agreed to get the internet, then he told me that there would be a 175.00 fee for technicians and such. I balked at that, but then he told me that if i bundled my home phone with the internet, that fee would be eliminated. I bundled. He told me I would recieve paperwork with instructions along with my equipment and a start up date. I got all of that.
My start up date was jan 30, after 8 p.m. I followed all the steps, but was not getting internet connection, so by 9:00 pm I called the tech support. The gentleman was nearly unintelligible; then he told me that my phone number was not even in the system as having an account at all, and that I had to call a different number (which he gave me), and talk to the audit department. I called. The audit department only operates normal business hours, so i had to wait until today (jan 31) to call. I called from work. After much time spent holding and waiting and punching in numbers for the automated system, I finally talked to a person. He told me he would have to transfer me. Then I talked to a lady, who told me she had to transfer me to someone else. When I finally talked to the last person, they told me that the technician had noted that I couldn't get the service because of my location. I asked why noone had bothered to call me or email me and let me know all this--the only response i got was "awwww i'm sorry"....but no real answer to my question.
So I asked about my home phone, and was told that the price of my home phone (landline) would be 40.00 a month! It was going to be 50.00 a month with the high speed internet! But since I already switched, I had to stay with them at least for now, cause i signed a contract when i bundled the phone and internet together.
This is ridiculous. Now I have equipment to send back (their cost but my time), no internet at all, and a phone contract with a company that I really want nothing to do with at all. I did some asking around today, and found two other people that have had similar bad experiences with this company.
