Last year, around Apr./May, I received a call from someone "request" I made to cancel my service with the "Public Yellow Pages." I told him that I was not aware of ever signing up with the "Public Yellow Pages," but he insisted that I had an account with them and that if I didn't get a "cancellation number" right away, I would have to pay $599.00 for a new year of service. I said I did not order any online advertisement, so they finally said that I have to go through their third party customer service dept. and they asked me a bunch of questions which I do not fully remember.
Today, 1/30/2012, they have called us and said that the unpaid bill, $667.40 (with interest and administration fees) will be sent to the collection agency if I do not pay right away. They played a recorded message where I apparently said “yes” to the question that I agree to pay the amount for the online advertisement. I am positive that they doctored the message to sound as if I am agreeing to this online subscription. I have refused to pay the amount.
Any suggestions to protect ourselves from these online predators?

  • I had the same issue with the Public Yellow Pages. I told the operator I hope you sleep good at night you f@#king scam artist. He asked me what has changed from 5 minutes ago when I told him to call corporate and that they would pay the bill. I told him I found them on scambook.com and we wouldn't be paying the bill. after cussing at him for three minutes he tried to lower the bill to $100.00 but I asked him how he sleeps at night and feeds him kids with the scammed money. He hung up on me and I haven't heard anything from collections.

  • I just hope that you do not get scammed from Public Yellow Pages. They tried to scare us by saying that we would be given to a collections agency if we did not pay, on the hook for $667(w/interest,admin fees). I complained and said we never had an invoice and what did this service provide? The rep played back voice recording but it is clearly a deceptive way to do business. We will not be paying, and make sure you don't either. Be sure you also tell BBB.

  • I got the same thing, funny is they only let you hear about you saying the yes part but not the entire conversation. They told me that we owe them and in order to get a copy of an invoice i have to say yes to receive invoice, now they are telling me that I purchased it when I said yes to the invoice. I told them purchasing and getting a copy of an invoice is two separate matters esp I am not in purchasing therefore not authorize to purchase anything. I filed a complaint with the FTC, please do the same to stop this people! I think they are the same company that the FTC filed a lawsuit last year, they just changed the name to Public Yellow Pages.

  • Ditto here in florida. Same MO. "We have someone in your office who said "yes" and that constitutes a legal contract". I have filed complaints with the State Attorney in Florida and City of New York Consumer protection. Now that the invoice has come in the mail, I think a call to the postal inspectors may be in order.

  • Same exact scenario here in Florida. Received several calls about the cancellation. I kept telling them I never ordered it and would hang up on them, but they finally got someone in my office to answer their questions and they now have a "pieced-together" audio tape of us agreeing to pay for this. Today, 5 months later, I have received the bill in the mail for $599.99 + fees = $676.81.

Just checked their web page and our company is not even listed! I will definitely file a complaint with the State Attorney and I am not paying this ridiculous invoice!

  • Beware they have changed their name again to Public Pages and are out hitting the same businesses - this time for 700.00 + fees adding to $915.35.
