TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

I was recently a victim of a "bait and switch' tactic by a liberty mutual agent, Kevin Greene (Lawrenceville NJ Office).

I contacted Kevin Greene on 1/24 and requested an auto quote. My company Mitsui Sumitomo participates in a discounted insurance plan for its employees through Liberty Mutual.

Kevin took my information, gave me a quote of $2902 - This figure was well below what I was currently paying at AllState, where i was an insured with them for 10+ years. I liked the numbers and based on this quote decided to move forward. Kevin indicated he would need some info to complete the process (SS#'s for me, my wife and my son...and some loan info for the two vehicles...). I promptly provided this info the next day, and Kevin further indicted that my premium had been reduced to $1931....although shortly after told me it "jumped' to $2201...

I was OK with the quote as it was still below what i was currently paying. So on Friday morning, Kevin and I agreed to the quote and I indicated I wished to move forward with Liberty. Kevin informed me he would send out some paperwork to my email add, that I could sign and scan back to him and that I would receive some temp ID cards in the mail....HE ALSO INFORMED MY ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THAT I SHOULD CANCEL WITH ALLSTATE RIGHT AWAY, BECAUSE THEY MAY OWE ME BACK SOME PREMIUM DOLLARS...I did cancel with them over the weekend....

Later on Friday I received the below email from Kevin:

Your NJ check was somehow held up and gave us an add on. The rate move up from 1931 to 2201 not anything close to the 2900 we were talking about but it do go up. The monthly move to 171 from 154. Sorry it may be the storm down here that is cause the issue but it did move up. The down payment is now under 12% and is now 11.39% so they may bill you for a couple of dollars in the up and coming weeks. Sorry about this is does happen like this from time to time. It caught a couple of ticket from some years ago. As you know we all look at 5 years now not 3. Hope to hear from you if you have any questions next week when we talk about the house and I am sending you your ID cards.

At $2201 i was still interested...


On Saturday, I received a package that contained my temp id paperwork, and also received two separate pairs of Auto Insurance ID cards, unfortunately these cards were for a Ricardo and Ivette Burgos in Iselin, NJ ???? An obvious mistake....

Today, Monday, I had an email from Kevin that contained the paperwork i needed to sign and return. I also noticed the down payment had been withdrawn from my bank account. However, as I was going over the paperwork, I noticed that I could not find where my son was listed as an insured....I promptly emailed Kevin. His reply was full of excuses but in the end he apparently failed to include my son as an insured, even though we talked extensively about him as a new driver...His email reply was shocking to say the least. the quote which was once $2902....then $1931.....then $2201...was now $3500!

This is the amount I was paying AllState! There was no need to change, and if i was given the correct numbers i would not have. i feel i have been a victim of a fraudulent quote and an immoral agent.

I attempted to reach out to Liberty, but was directed to the customer service dept where a nice person named Ravi, heard my issues and would take a report. I also tried to reach someone at the agency and was told the manager, Madeline Higgerson was not available...i waited on the line, and was directed to "Robin" a floor supervisor, who listened to my issues and indicated she would have to raise the issue of this agents' behavior to her superiors....She also confirmed that the last, highest quote, was truly the real figure for my coverage.

Sad to say, I was a victim of YOUR agents incompetence, and unfortunately, I am the one who is hurt in this whole situation as nothing can be done to help me.

I do realize this is an anonymous email address and that i will never hear anything back from Liberty regarding the terrible treatment I received from your company, but i still felt upset enough and compelled enough to put this in writing.

i will continue to call each day until i feel some satisfaction from the way i was poorly treated by your company. i will endeavor to spread the word to my company's HR department, my fellow employees, family and friends and anyone who will listen that they should never use Liberty Mutual.
