At the beginning of June, 2017 we verbally contracted with Palm Beach Appliance Repair (hereinafter “PBAR”) to repair our refrigerator. Now, here we are, approximately two months and 6 visits later, and $850 in billings,…and all we have to show for it is a still-not-working four-yr. old. (only) refrigerator/freezer. In this day and age, do you know what it feels like NOT to have a refrigerator for 2 months??? Palm Beach Appliance Repair, located at 650 SW 2 Ave., Boynton Beach, FL 33426. 561-319-9235 & 561-248-4116, never could effectively diagnose the problem. They started out replacing several parts in the refrigerator with other parts, at least some of them “used”. Frankly, we do not know how many “change-outs” they did, or how many parts they took pot shots with. The bottom line is that they couldn’t repair the refrigerator.. But,…that’s not all. These unprofessional people:
1. Bent the lower rear panel of the refrigerator;
2. Nearly broke one of the refrigerator doors, prior to adjusting it back to normal (we think, anyhow);
3. Cost us countless hours of waiting for them. No appointment was ever kept timely. They were hours late. We lost lots of work time and salary waiting for them at our home.
4. Indirectly cost us hundreds of dollars in food spoilage.
If there is any “good news”, $250 of the billing was on our credit card. We were able to dispute that, and, at least temporarily, have won the dispute. Then we asked for the $600 back we paid them in cash, given that they couldn’t get the job done after 6 visits. Paying them cash was a BIG MISTAKE!!! What response did we get from them? At first, “radio silence”. Then, on 6/30/17, Lauren from that office texted me: “That is fine you will get your refund on Wednesday”. But,…no refund ever came. Finally, with threats of a day in Small Claims Court, filing a police report for theft, and reporting the incident to Complaint web sites, PBAR finally,…again, agreed to refund our $600,…but now, ONLY on the condition that we allow them back in the house once more to remove the parts they installed in our refrigerator, and re-install our original parts. But, in one of his earlier visits, Steve Baker, from PBAR, specifically advised us that he was going to dispose of the old compressor that he originally took from our refrigerator, our original part. If true, then exactly what did he intend to re-install? And, if not true, is he just a liar? I have to wonder whether this company is little more than a salvage company of used appliance parts. On the surface, PBAR’s “refund-for-parts” offer sounds reasonable. But, frankly, with the lack of credibility and their inability to successfully complete our repair, we just could not believe them anymore, and have no idea what he intended to put back in our fridge. And, at one point, Steve asked us to give him the entire refrigerator in return for the refund!!! What??? We need that fridge and still need to get it repaired,…by someone!!! They even had the gall to suggest that we go out and buy a mini-refrigerator at our expense, while they took even more time to figure out how to fix what we had already paid them to fix. How ballsy is that? By the way, their invoice has what appears to be a web site address, “palmbeachappliancerepair.expert”. But that URL gets you nowhere. It’s really www.washrepair.com. Conveniently, it lists no physical address, nor any way to email them. I told them I thought they operated like a real fly-by-night. Stay away from these folks! In our opinion they are incompetent, inconsiderate, lack any semblance of credibility, and, essentially, are nothing but thieves. Or, at the very least pay them with credit card only, so you can dispute the charge if they don’t perform as agreed.
