I canceled the service with ADT after the minimum required contract time was up. Several weeks later I had 2 occurences of the alarm going off for no reason in the middle of the night, the first time around 3:30 am, then again around 4:30 am. Needless to say I was angry. After the second one I disconnected all of the hard wired electrical connections and unplugged all of the backup batteries powering the system. Not long after that I received an email from ADT saying that my system was not working and needed attention. Then a couple months after that, I received a phone call message that said the same thing - that the system need attention.

I am now firmly convinced that ADT intentionally sends out these false alarms as an attempt to restore service and generate business. Clearly from the email and phone message, they continue to actively monitor the system. And they do have the ability send test signals, so it is not out of the realm of possibilities that they can also send out false alarms. 1) to generate a service call = $, and 2) to get another opportunity to restore the service = $$$.

A quick search of the internet, i found 2 other such similar circumstances of false alarms, shortly after discontinuing service. And those people came to the same conclusion.

In addition to all of the poor ratings and customer complaints, ADT is one company I will stay away from.
