I responded to an online ad for a "free" watch and needed to pay only shipping of $5.99. Later, I was billed $98. On calling the company (on 02/01/17), I learned I had enrolled in a monthly program which I ordered cancelled.
This company may be operating within the law, but its practice is certainly unethical. My perception (emphasize my) is that I was to receive a free returnable watch and pay only shipping. It was not obvious that I would be charged $98 later. It was also not obvious that I had agreed to a monthly program. Finally, the name of the company is not obvious in my VISA register.
